Todd’s Thoughts-June 2017

June is the final month of our Church year, and I want to take
this opportunity to thank you for all your support, generosity,
and hard work in helping us fulfill the continuing mission
of our church—to create community, to find meaning, and
to work for justice. Given the outcome of the November
election, I realize it’s been a difficult year, leaving many of us
with shock, disbelief, and anxiety about what comes next.
Yet, I remind myself that the previous eight years were hardly
a cakewalk. We had to fight hard for marriage equality, drug
policy reform, immigration issues, racial equality, healthcare
reform, and so much else we’re still struggling to obtain.
It’s not as if we’re suddenly going to have to start working
for justice; we’ve been doing it all along, dragging much
of the country, kicking and screaming, along with us. That
much hasn’t changed and, I guess, it never will. Sometimes
I think the working for justice part of our mission is precisely
what gives our lives meaning, and what helps us create the
kind of community we want for everyone. But none of this
happens without the commitment and support you give our
church. I’m not sure what the year ahead holds in store, but
I trust, come what may, we will succeed, one step at a time,
because you put your money where your mouth is, your hand
to the task, and your faith into action. It is a privilege to be
your minister and I look forward to all we shall accomplish
during the year ahead.
