Candace Schmidt has been busy

Since the lockdown last March Candace Schmidt has involved herself in several projects to keep busy, including organizing her garage and taking up sewing after a 30-year break. She has always admired well-ordered garages, but never had one, until now! She grew up sewing a lot of her own clothes, so when she took this hobby up again, she has been happily sewing for her granddaughter and for herself.

Dian O’Brien had a medical adventure

About a month ago, Dian O’Brien was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis, Before the diagnosis, she was blaming her swollen knuckles, sore arm, sore foot on her intensive gardening (each spring and summer). RA has also affected her eyesight, so after an exam at Spokane Eye Clinic last week, sure enough, her MD is getting worse. She has seen more doctors in the past two months than in the past ten years combined. She went through the grieving period, anger period and sitting around period before she decided today to walk to the grocery store to see if she could, preparing for the eventuality of not driving. And she CAN!  It is about two miles round trip but most of the walk has sidewalks and it is quite level. So, out of adversity comes determination to maybe not overcome the adversity, but at least find ways to deal with it.

Mosher family news

Mary and Tom Mosher are excited that their daughter, Shanna Mosher, and her partner, James Carter, have moved from Mountlake Terrace, a north-Seattle suburb, to Spokane. Shanna was born and raised in Spokane. James was raised in Spokane. Shanna was officially ‘named’ in the (then) Unitarian Church of Spokane by Rev. Dr. Bill Houff and attended UUCS through graduation. Both Shanna and James attended Ferris High School, graduating in 1990 and dating during their senior year. They both went their separate ways after graduation, until reuniting about 6 years ago. They are Gonzaga fans, both having degrees from Gonzaga. James is an assistant principal at Ferris as of this summer. Shanna is an RN and recently Director of Integrated Procedure Center at Virginia Mason Hospital in Seattle. By mutual agreement, she will continue her 20+ year career with Virginia Mason, working from home here in Spokane in Virginia Mason’s Human Resource Department and assisting the hospital’s transition caused by her departure. Shanna and James have a home under construction overlooking Glenrose Prairie and about 10 minutes from Mary and Tom.
