Volunteer Fair Spotlight: UUJME/Meaningful Movies Team

The UUJME/Meaningful Movies Team focuses on education of our church and the wider community concerning the human rights violations of the State of Israel against the Palestinian people. We keep ourselves informed by having a representative from our group participate in regular video conferencing with the National UUJME. In coordination with the Social Justice Council and the Operations Team we have had a presence every Sunday in the Fellowship Hall.

Our chapter of UUJME has provided two educational programs: 7 UU Principles and Justice in Israel/Palestine and How are the Children Now?, a UCCS program focusing on Israeli military treatment of Palestinian children. We also offer a Middle Eastern dinner and movie for the UU Auction and hold a monthly movie night which has grown into Meaningful Movies with UUCS.

Our group has brought Meaningful Movies to Spokane. Meaningful Movies was started over 20 years ago in Seattle, showing social justice documentaries followed by facilitated discussion. We follow that format, showing three movies and helping with the Seattle Social Justice Festival showing in Spokane. All were well received and had great discussion. We are looking for people to help with the planning, selecting movies and finding facilitators.
