The Ethics of Killing Zombies: The Problem of Moral Status and the Question of Who Has it?

In the movies, zombies are portrayed as mindless, soulless corpses. Dangerous as they are, they can be killed without regret or remorse. This is so because, as creatures without consciousness, few would argue that their “lives” have any value. Fictional as it is, the zombie genre is a good catalyst for exploring what ethicists and philosophers mean by “moral status” and exactly what the criterion is for determining who has it.
