The Wisdom of Winter: Appreciating the Cold, Dark, Still, Quiet Times of Life

Some have asked why I’m taking my brief sabbatical in the the dead of winter, rather than waiting until summer. It’s because taking a break, for me, means having down time, without expectations, or plans, nor much intention to do anything, while being available to embrace whatever happens. The quiet stillness of winter means fewer photons slamming into my body – energizing and urging me towards endless, sometimes thoughtless, activity.
