A week or so ago I received a phone message from Paul Grove, who has played guitar for us several times over the last few years. He had just finished a new CD and wanted to give me a copy. I was delighted, of course, because Paul is one of the best guitarists in town and heads the Gonzaga guitar department! When I spoke with him, I asked if we might use cuts off his album in our church services. He immediately said YES! So, this coming Sunday, April 18, you will hear two of the cuts from his album, entitled Music Will Save Us.
When I previewed the pieces, I gained even more respect for Paul. He is much more diverse in his playing than I knew! And … he also sings!! So this Sunday you will hear Hello, Sunshine and The Turtle Song. Both songs were written out of Paul’s personal experience. He is singing his own lyrics in each. These pieces celebrate the Earth, which is a good reminder for us to keep up our individual and collective work in this important area. (Earth Day is coming on Thursday next week.) Here is Paul’s dedication for the album:
I offer this recording in the most sincere and generous spirit that music inspires within me. There is no charge for this work. Whatever you would spend on the purchase of this CD, please instead share it with a person or living creature that needs food, water, shelter or safety.
Paul Grove
I intend to honor his request. I invite you to do the same!
Another topic: We are having a talent show as part of our after services re-opening celebration on May 9!!! I am now contacting people to play, sing, recite, do a comedy skit, or ????? But I do not know all of your talents, so please contact me if you have something you would like to do!!! You can email me here at the church: uumusic@uuspokane.org. Let’s make this a real celebration of all of our combined talents!!
