About this upcoming Sunday … all I can say is, “Y’ALL COME!!!!” Member, environmental activist and Native American Jacob Johns has his fingers in lots of pies during this service: He’s the main speaker (Environmental Activism as a Spiritual Practice) and he, along with his daughter, will sing us a story about the Milky Way. He is also doing a unity chant for the main music! How’s that for “all over the place!” Jacob is a real “live wire” as a human being and is always interesting to listen to. Personally, I can’t wait to hear what he’s going to say. So please don’t stay away because our “main man” is not speaking!
In fact, I’d like to say a word or two about that. Over many years I have seen we have fewer of our members in attendance for our guest speakers — either “in house” or from outside the church — than we do for any of our regular minister’s services! Now, while I can see somewhat why this might be true, you who stay home on those Sundays are REALLY missing out! Our Worship Team people, who do the work of getting other speakers, take a great deal of care in choosing excellent people for those Sundays when our minister is gone. I have seen many stellar services at those times and have often wished more of you were taking advantage of them. And when we have a church member speaking, it is a fine opportunity to get to know that member. I have found that UUs are very interesting people. I have sometimes found this out at Memorial services — when it is too late to get to know that person better! What a loss…
So come on in this coming Sunday and get to know a bit about Jacob Johns and what he is up to!!! We need to get reconnected after our long absence from one another.
See ya there…
