I want to give all of you an update on our transition to a new pianist. You will have noticed at this point that Dixie Marshall is here with us in an Interim capacity. I feel grateful to her for stepping in, when I asked, after Michelina Tyrie resigned. (Many of you may remember that Dixie was our pianist for nine years before we had Gennie Gregg.) Dixie will be here until we find the right person to fill the position permanently.
Many of you may not know that it really is a bit of work to find someone with all the skills, talent and time to do a good job for us. That person must be able to work up pieces and hymns quickly, accompany soloists and the Choir (when we are able to resume rehearsing safely) and do solo work (like an Offertory) on Sunday mornings! Doing those solos and accompanying hymns (and people) actually require some quite different skill sets and many people who play the piano are not able to do both well. I will be looking for a person who can do all these things well and in a fairly quick time frame, as services come at us every week! So, I ask for your patience as I engage with all the candidates I can find.
If any of you have thoughts or preferences in this matter, please contact me (uumusic@uuspokane.org) so I can add your considerations into the mix.
