These include the Women’s Hearth, Miryam’s house, Transitional Living Center & Educare, New Leaf Kitchen & Café and the Home Yard Cottages. Each program is designed to seek justice, growth, wholeness, respect and community for each woman or child who comes to their doors. Their unique programs, help women and families at every step of the way as they become more stable and independent by providing safety, support and skills for success.
Transitions believes that the fullness of each person is realized in relationship with others. They are a non-profit working to end poverty and homelessness for women and children in Spokane. The Women’s Hearth is a center where women are warmly greeted, offered safety and access to necessities from staff and volunteers ready to connect them with additional resources to find housing stability. The Hearth is where women feeling isolated and alone can build meaningful relationships and find a supportive community.
Transitions also has transitional housing programs (Miryam’s House and TLC) for single women and women with children, including on-site childcare with providers helping children recover from the trauma homelessness can cause. Transitions’ most recent addition of permanent supportive housing, the Home Yard Cottages are 24 energy efficient low-income cottage-style homes is just north of the church off Northwest Boulevard. You may have heard about the New Leaf Kitchen & Cafe, their culinary job training program, housed just down the street from our church.
