Our special collection for this month will be for Crosswalk.
Crosswalk, a program of Volunteers of America was founded in 1985 and provides a comprehensive system of care for runaway and homeless youth (RHY) in Spokane, Washington, serving more than 500 youth annually. With Volunteers of America’s Integrated Care model youth are able to access all the services needed to successfully navigate youth homelessness. As a 24/7 low barrier shelter, Crosswalk offers drop-in day services as well as overnight services. The services include behavioral health counseling, including substance use counseling, case management, family reunification, medical and legal advocacy, life skills and job placement programs, access to transitional housing, onsite GED course and testing site, as well as three meals a day, access to showers, laundry, clothing bank and hygiene products.
Crosswalk also has a youth outreach program. Outreach staff build relationships with homeless youth living on the streets. These relationships often lead to youth accessing services at the shelter and potentially family reunification. As the only licensed youth shelter in Eastern WA, Crosswalk is often a homeless youth’s only option
