As Unitarian Universalists, we have many ways to contribute to our individual, social justice work. An easy way to do this is to become a sponsor for an eligible student at Balboa Elementary through the 2nd Harvest Bite2Go program. Through Bite2Go, the most at-risk students are given a bag of food every week that helps supplement their food supply over the weekend. Over the past 15 years, UUCS members have supported Balboa Elementary through this program. During the 2024–2025 school year, 58 students received Bite2Go kits every week at a total cost of $10,440.

It is our goal that no student be put on a waiting list to receive these kits because we don’t have enough sponsors. As the 2025–2026 school year begins, please consider sponsoring a student at Balboa Elementary. Sponsoring a student is only $15 a month or $180 a year and can be done through the UUCS website. Be sure to indicate Bite2Go for your monthly or yearly donation in the box labeled Other. To donate to 2nd Harvest directly, call 509-534-6678 to indicate you want to sponsor a student at Balboa Elementary through the Bite2Go program. You can make this donation with a credit card, monthly or for the full year. You can also mail a check to the following:

Be sure to indicate Balboa Elementary on the memo line. One time donations to this program are also gratefully accepted if you cannot sponsor a student for the entire school year.

If you are currently a Bite2Go sponsor, your continued support is greatly appreciated and once again needed. If you are not and are able, please consider sponsoring a student in need as your act of social justice.
