If you attended or watched the September 17 service, you heard about a new course being offered this fall to all Spokane Alliance member organizations, including UUCS. Its goals are as follows: to understand the history of white settler colonization in our region, forge better relationships with local indigenous people, and collaborate on future action.
The “Wrestling with the Truth of Colonization” training will take place on Tuesday and Thursday evenings (Nov. 14, 16, 28, 30 and December 5) from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Zoom. It will be followed by three in-person meetings focused on tribal history and opportunities for partnership with local indigenous organizations.
A Spokane Alliance team has been working for nearly two years to bring this training to Spokane. Those of us who took an earlier version of the course based on tribes in Montana and western Canada (and who will be acting as discussion leaders in the upcoming course) can highly recommend it for the insight it provides into how native peoples were treated during our nation’s westward expansion.
