September 2024

Our special collection for the month of September will be for Transitions. Transitions is a local not- for-profit working to end poverty and homelessness for women and children in Spokane.

They operate six programs designed to support our community by providing childcare, housing, job training, and friendly, safe spaces. Programs under the Transitions umbrella include: Women’s Hearth, Miryam’s House, Transitional Living Center, Educare, Home Yard Cottages and New Leaf Vocational Services.

From job training to housing to daytime shelter spaces, Transitions’ programs have had a busy summer. Our daytime shelter, the Women’s Hearth, has undergone much-needed entryway construction and equipment updates. Two families have obtained permanent housing and moved on from our Transitional Living Center, making room for the next households in need. Miryam’s House, our transitional housing space for single women exiting from homelessness, continues to offer community dinners for all residents—a highlight of participants’ stay. And in response to participant need, Our New Leaf Vocational Services program has restructured our intake services to connect participants more quickly with housing and social supports as they prepare for employment.

This is work that we cannot do without the support of the Spokane community, including you. Caring for our most vulnerable women and families is something that we are all accomplishing together.

Thank you so much for all of your ongoing support!

If this ministry speaks to you we invite you to give generously.

If you’d like to contribute to this special collection, you may do so when it is announced during services on the third Sunday of the month, by mailing a check to the church (4340 West Whistalks Way, Spokane, WA 99224) or by donating online at the church website.
