The Secret Readers Society: A Silent Reading Club

Shhh… there’s a new club at our church—and the secret is, there is no secret. The Secret Readers Society is for anyone who loves books and wants to nurture reading as a joyful, even religious/spiritual practice.

Unlike a traditional book club, there’s no required book to finish before you come. Instead, we gather in the e. e. cummings Room (RE Wing) on the first and third Tuesdays of each month, (starting September 2, 2025) from 6:00–8:00 p.m. We’ll settle in together until about 6:15, then enjoy a period of silent reading (30–60 minutes). Afterwards, those who wish may stay to share what they’re reading, swap recommendations, or talk about how we can grow our reading lives.

Bring any book you like—fiction, nonfiction, poetry, etc, in any format you prefer (physical books, e-readers) Audiobooks are welcome too, as long as you bring headphones so the space remains peaceful for everyone. A monthly reading prompt will appear in the newsletter, but you’re always free to read whatever calls to you.

The Secret Readers Society is open to readers of all ages, as long as participants can honor the quiet time. Come discover the pleasure of reading together, in silence, and then sharing in conversation afterwards. Bring a reader friend!

Come read with us—the secret is, it’s more fun together.
