Sunday Mornings – Children’s Chapel

The Unitarian Universalist Church of Spokane offers a vibrant and engaging Children and Family Ministry Program which includes community and family events, opportunities for multi-generational spiritual growth, and ongoing religious exploration for children and youth.

On Sunday mornings at UUCS, children and youth begin in the Sanctuary with their families, sharing in the joy of chalice lighting, singing, and a Time for All Ages story. Then, with the congregation’s blessing and the hymn “Go Now in Peace”, our young people are lovingly sung out to their religious exploration programs.

We believe deeply in the power of a multigenerational community. That’s why, on Sundays, children and youth are invited into meaningful exploration together, learning side by side with peers of different ages.

Children’s Chapel, held in the Thoreau Room for ages 4–12, follows the familiar rhythm of a Sunday service designed just for them. Through music, sharing, and activities connected to the morning’s sermon theme, kids deepen their spiritual exploration while building friendships. The morning ends with a time of fellowship and snacks. (Parents, please plan to pick up your elementary-aged children once the main service concludes.)

And while we offer vibrant programs each Sunday, children are always welcome to remain in the Sanctuary for the full service. In fact, we especially encourage youth in grades 7 and up to join the congregation in worship.

Nursery/Childcare

Children’s programming is offered during our second service each Sunday. If your family attends the 9:15 a.m. service, you’re warmly invited to use the Children’s Table in the Friendship Hall—a cozy spot with activities to help little ones engage during worship. At our 11 a.m. service, families with infants and toddlers are also welcome to enjoy our nursery, staffed by caring childcare professionals in the Religious Education Wing.

For those who prefer a quieter space, the Chapel (located at the back of the Friendship Hall and Sanctuary) provides a live-stream of the service and a comfortable setting for families.

To help us keep everyone safe, we ask that parents and guardians stop by the check-in station in the foyer to sign children into Sunday morning programming..
