I delivered my first sermon on the necrophilous (death oriented) society in July of 2011, only a couple of weeks after becoming UUCS minister, and I have spoken frequently about it ever since. But even more important is its opposite, the biophilous (life directed) society, of which I’ve said little. This is probably because my instinct is to address problems that need our attention. I might talk about water pollution, for example, but not give a sermon about an abundance of fresh water. Yet the love of life, which is far too absent in our society, is the very solution we need right now and it’s about time I say more about it.
