I continue to believe the age of the Nation State has come to an end, only most of us don’t realize it, while others unconsciously react to its loss by retreating into isolationism and authoritarianism, nostalgically longing for “good old days” that never existed to begin with. This, I believe, is behind the MAGA movement many of us find so deeply troubling. But no place on Earth can truly become great if it’s only great for a few of its citizens. The emphasis on making a nation “great” is misplaced if it’s not about making life great for everyone.
