Carl Maxey, the late Civil Rights attorney and activist, remains one of Spokane’s most celebrated figures. Maxey also happens to have been a member of our church, including once serving as our Board President and is famously remembered for being our annual Santa Claus. He was an important figure in our larger community and is one of our faith community’s important spiritual ancestors. In this sermon I’ll do my best to honor his memory.
