Where did it all begin? In 1961 when the American Unitarian Association and the Universalist Church of America formed the Unitarian Universalist Association? During the 18th Century when Universalist preacher John Murray cried, “Give them hope not hell?” Or during the 16th century when Unitarian theologian Michael Servetus was burned for saying there is no Trinity? Although our faith is no longer a part of the Christian Religion, I still like to say it all began with Jesus, that after 2000 years we’ve not strayed far from his simple teachings.

This Sunday’s Special Collection — Warriors Heart to Art
Warriors Heart to Art is a non-profit, all-volunteer organization committed to facilitating healing through the creative arts among United States military personnel, veterans, and those working with veterans. This group began as a national non-profit organization that produces healing retreats for veterans suffering from PTSD. In Spokane, our distinctive independent program encourages and aids personal truth-telling through creative story, visual arts, poetry, and music. In addition to helping individual veterans in our annual Retreat, we also work to help our community better understand PTSD. Suicide by combat vets is a serious and shocking kind of trouble. We seek to support Spokane veterans and their families and to better understand their unique needs. “The end of damaging isolation is up to us. They can’t do it alone.”
