It is frequently assumed that a deep devotion to Enlightenment principles makes one a Humanist, and, therefore, isn’t “very spiritual.” It is also asserted that human dignity, reason, freedom, and tolerance, therefore, cannot be the basis of a meaningful religion because these are simply too shallow, too mundane, and too uninspiring to give our lives purpose. I reject such assumptions and assertions and, in this sermon, I’ll explain why ours is just as legitimately called a religion as any other, even without the nonsense.
