Be scam aware.

Scams to steal your personal identity and money are common, so be alert. Scammers will often contact you by phone, text or email. Protect yourself from fraud by knowing all the signs.

Often, these emails or texts claim to be from Rev. Todd or other UUCS members. Many claim these individuals needs you to handle a “discreet request” or “need help” and that you must communicate via email.

Rev. Todd and the UUCS staff will NEVER ask you to obtain gift cards or send money directly to them. Neither will most UUCS members. If you are in any doubt, or even if you’re not in doubt, call that member directly to verify!

In addition, you can check the sender address of the email. Official messages from Rev. Todd only come from the uuspokane.org email domain. If you receive a suspicious email, do not reply to it or forward it, simply delete it and send us a separate message letting us know.

Tips to keep you safe:

  • Slow Down – Scammers pressure you to act fast.
  • Verify – Verify their information by calling the church office or the member directly using contact information from the church directory.
  • Stop – Do not open unfamiliar emails which may include spyware and links to fake websites.

Be safe and be careful. Your savvy is our best defense!
