Panel Discussion and Q&A Session After Second Service: Homelessness: Regional Solutions, Housing and Help

Sunday, February 26, 2023 at 12:30 p.m. at UUCS

Please join the Social Justice Coordinating Council after the second service on Sunday, February 26, 2023 for a lively and informative panel discussion with folks who are deeply familiar with the current state of the systems, programs, and resources available in our community that address homelessness and permanent supportive housing.

The panelists will share a variety of perspectives ranging from their own lived experiences and successes and challenges in the field of human services. You will have the opportunity to engage in Q & A with folks associated with programs at Transitions, Compassionate Addiction Treatment and Spokane Low Income Housing Consortium’s “Rights of Way” DOT project that has been helping transition residents of Camp Hope into housing. Our guest speaker for the morning’s church services, Ben Stuckart, will also join the panel along with Gavin Cooley, both of whom are taking an active role promoting workable systemic solutions to homelessness in our community.

Lunch will be available. We hope you will join us for this important discussion that can help members of our UU community engage in the topic and find ways to offer meaningful help.

We invite members to view the film Lead Me Home before Ben speaks. This immersive, cinematic film personalizes the overwhelming issue of homelessness by telling the real-life stories of those going through it as a first step toward challenging uninformed attitudes and outmoded policies and gives the audience a rare, in-depth look at the scale, scope, and diversity of unsheltered America today.
