Your Endowment Team is pleased to report that gifts totaling $10,150 have been received in memory of Dr. William “Bill” Greene, a beloved church member who died on January 21. A major gift of $10,000 came from Bill’s wife Linda, with additional donations from Donna Borden Rhodes and Bill and Vern Prouty.
Bill and Linda met at Stanford as undergraduates, married in 1966 and moved to Spokane after Bill’s medical school studies at UCLA plus internships and pediatric certifications at the University of Minnesota. In 1976, he and a partner founded the Young People’s Clinic in Spokane Valley. He practiced medicine until he retired in 2010.
Bill is remembered not only for his expertise in childhood infectious diseases and his love for his young patients, but for a life well lived: classical piano, singing in our choir, mountain climbing, dancing, running, cross country skiing, poetry and travel, including a trip to the Soviet Union with Physicians for Social Responsibility to promote world peace. He doted on his children, Marshall and Kaylin.
His last dozen years were difficult as aphasia and dementia robbed him of words and other abilities. Linda, helped by her community, cared for him as he moved into memory care, singing familiar Beatles songs and visiting him daily until his death.
All of us who knew Bill recall his humor, energy, intelligence and love. We continue to honor his memory.
