Meaningful Movie for May

Please join us on Wednesday, May 24, 2023 at 6:30 p.m. for our May Meaningful Movie event in person and on Zoom. We will be watching the first and fifth episodes of a series entitled Housing & Help documenting the challenges and possibilities for Spokane’s housing crisis.

Three former City Hall officials came together as volunteers to understand how Spokane could improve housing opportunities. They visited Houston, a city known for its success in fighting homelessness to see how it was done. They found that Houston attacked the problem on a regional basis with various stakeholders combined under one umbrella organization. Sparked by the efforts of these volunteers to alleviate homelessness, the cities of Spokane, Spokane Valley, Airway Heights and Spokane County have come together for 90 days to discuss the possibility of creating a regional plan to attack the problem. We are in the midst of that 90-day period right now.

Gavin Cooley, Spokane’s former chief financial officer and the creator of the Housing & Help series will be with us to discuss the progress of this campaign.

Please join us in person Wednesday, May 24, 2023 at 6:30 p.m. to watch episodes 1 and 5 of Housing & Help at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Spokane, 4340 W. Whistalks Way followed by a discussion with Gavin Cooley.
