The first essential component of social justice is adequate food for all mankind. —Norman Borlaug
For the past 15 years, Unitarian Universalists have supported Balboa Elementary students in the Bite2Go program and this year the need is greater than ever. Last school year, we supported 50 students per week, at a cost of $1,000 per week, and we expect the number to rise in September.
Our current sponsors can barely cover these costs, therefore, your renewal and new sponsors are desperately needed. As food costs continue to rise, the cost to sponsor a student remains stable at $15.00 a month or $180.00 a year. You can contribute through the UUCS website. Be sure to indicate Bite2Go for your monthly or yearly donation in the box labeled Other.
To donate to 2nd Harvest directly, call 509-534-6678 and tell them you want to sponsor a student at Balboa Elementary through the Bite2Go program. You can make this donation with a credit card, monthly or for the full year. You can also mail a check to 2nd Harvest Food Bank at the following address:
2nd Harvest Food Bank
1234 E Front Avenue
Spokane, WA 99202.
Be sure to indicate Balboa Elementary on the memo line. One time donations to this program are also gratefully accepted if you cannot sponsor a student for the entire school year.
If you are currently a Bite2Go sponsor, your continued support is greatly appreciated and once again needed. If you are not and are able, please consider sponsoring a student in need as your act of social justice.
