Bite 2 Go: Help Us Fight Childhood Hunger

One out of five kids in Eastern Washington is at risk of hunger, and without food assistance from their school, many of these children often face the weekend uncertain about where their next meal will come from. Through the 2nd Harvest, Bite 2 Go program, the most at-risk students are given a bag of food every week that helps supplement their food supply over the weekend. Over the past 10 years, UUCS has supported Balboa Elementary through this program. During the 2022–2023 school year, 46 students received Bite 2 Go kits every week, which was a 30% increase over the previous year. With the continued rise in food costs, it is anticipated the number of students in need will increase again this school year.

It is critical that no student be put on a waiting list to receive these kits due to a lack of sponsors. As the 2023–2024 school year begins, please consider sponsoring a student at our designated school. Sponsoring a student is only $15 a month or $180 a year and can be done through the UUCS website by clicking on Donations. Please be sure to indicate Bite Go for your monthly or yearly donation in the box labeled Other. You can also write a check to UUCS and indicate Bite-to-Go on the memo line. To donate to 2nd Harvest directly, call 509-534-6678 and indicate you want to sponsor a student at Balboa Elementary through the Bite-to-Go program.
