Embodied Cognition and Breath Mapping Workshop

Following the second service on February 4, 2024, you can join our Music Director Madeline McNeill in an Embodied Cognition and Breath Mapping workshop in the Chapel from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Suggested donation is $20.

This workshop will integrate breath and voice practices to investigate emotions and cognition in a way that includes the body. We will focus on the anatomy and physiology of the breath musculature (defined here as muscles of the torso, neck, and head) and explore movements and sensations of the breath muscles, then conceptually relate them to emotion and mental states as they are perceived in the body. This awareness training will serve as a tool to embody the concepts. One implication of this work is that the health (agility, stress, and coordination) of the breath musculature reflects and influences emotion and mental states. This perspective opens opportunities for integrating bodywork, including techniques of music training and the performing arts, into models for health and healing.

You can register with Madeline at music@uuspokane.org or show up in the chapel!
