Support Women Who Are Homeless in Our Community

Saturday, February 25, 2024 at 12:45 p.m. in the Thoreau Room at UUCS

Hey UU’s! The Social Justice Coordinating Council is having a party for a good cause!

Join us after the second service. Enjoy a light lunch and learn about the many ways Women’s Hearth and Hope House are working to end homelessness for women in our community.

There are more than 800 women experiencing homelessness in Spokane. Meeting their basic needs can be a struggle for Hope House, a program of Volunteers of America, and Transitions’ Women’s Hearth. Imagine not having access to bras, underwear and personal hygiene items due to poverty and homelessness. Mardi Bras aims to change that as a fundraiser for Transitions and VOA. Please help meet the basic needs of women experiencing poverty and homelessness.

Our luncheon will be the culmination of a month-long effort to gather in-kind donations at UUCS from the list below. Bring items to the party or place them in the Mardi Bra donation box in the Friendship Hall all month long. Unable to get out and purchase items? Monetary donations will be gratefully received on February 25.

Wish list for the donation box:

  • Gently used and new bras
  • New underwear all sizes (small sizes 5 to 7 are needed the most)
  • New socks
  • Lip balm
  • Tampons and sanitary pads
  • Razors
  • New hairbrushes
  • Deodorant

Please RSVP to Donna Borden-Rhodes at dbordenrhodes@comcast.net.
