August 2026

And suddenly the fires came.

I suspect many of you are feeling anxious and wondering how you can help in the aftermath of this firestorm. The Pastoral Care team, with help from Rebecca, sent out an email to members and friends, Wildfire Resource Guide, that we hope can assist you in finding support, guidance and donation information. If for some reason you did not get it click here to get the PDF.

I have heard of one church family that has lost their home to the fire, John and Mary Benham. Dave and Carol Canterbury evacuated and are fine. We have not been able to reach Jan Strobeck but feel sure she was in the evacuation area. Please let us know if you have talked with Jan or anyone else we need to reach out to.

Reaching out to our friends and family is helpful to ease our anxiety. Let us talk together and share how we are feeling, and maybe learn how we might help others in need.

On a more upbeat note, on August 13 Tom and Mary Mosher will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary. Tom and Mary consider ‘13’ to be their lucky number. Their first date was Friday, February 13, 1959, when Mary was in the 9th grade and Tom was in the 11th grade. Both Mary’s first and last (maiden) name, Moody, as well as their married last name, Mosher, all begin with the letter ‘M’ … the 13th letter of the alphabet. They celebrate the anniversary of their first date as well as their wedding anniversary.

On Sunday, August 2, the family and friends of long time UUCS members Jan and Bud Trutton celebrated their awesome marriage and partnership by committing their combined ashes in our Memorial Garden.
Forever together.

Let’s remember to go through our homes, garages and storage units to find the gently used items to donate to the UUCS indoor garage sale on Saturday, August 29. To find out more, click here.
