Deena Romoff

As many of us know Deena Romoff I want to share that she recently had cancer surgery. She is still in the hospital. A few days prior to her planned surgery Deena fell and fractured her shoulder. Deena has had new challenges each day. Let us hold her in our caring thoughts. For more information you can contact Rosalie, Deena’s partner, or Bettie Stiritz.

Endowment Legacy Group

The endowment’s Legacy group had a gathering at Rockwood to hear all the latest about our church endowment fund. We all wish to commend Dan Eacret for the stunning and informative charts he created to track the endowments history. Way to go Dan!

Kathy Heaps

Kathy Heaps family welcome the arrival of grandson 2, Hayes Patrick Harris. A great sleeper and snuggler. His big brother Teddy couldn’t be happier.

Secular Humanist Version of the Lord’s Prayer

Tom Mosher recently sent me this and I wish to share it with you. Tom was asked by a pretty Christian person, “Is there a secular humanist version of the Lord’s prayer or similar?” I said that I would look into that. As a result, I used AI to ask for a secular version of the Lord’s prayer. Here is the result:

A Secular Humanist Version of the Lord’s Prayer

May human dignity be honored in every person.
May reason guide our choices,
compassion shape our actions,
and justice direct our common life.
May we use our freedom with care,
seek truth with open minds,
and meet one another with empathy and respect.
Give us courage to repair harm,
strength to forgive,
and wisdom to build a world where all can flourish.
May we care for one another,
protect the vulnerable,
and work together for peace, fairness, and hope.
The good we do is in our hands,
and the future we make depends on us.
Amen.

Here we are right in the middle of Fall with bright beautiful colors and mild temperatures.

Treasure Trove Sale

I hope you made your way to the church on October 3 and found something special to take home from our church Treasure Trove (garage sale). You would have found a plethora of things to choose from. Many thanks to everyone that made this event happen.

We had a bit of excitement at the church during the garage sale that required us to call the fire department. With that call soon arrived seven, yes seven!, fire trucks. After evacuating for a short time and all declared safe everyone got quickly back to their shopping.

Farewell to Bill Prouty

Long time church member Bill Prouty’s memorial will be held on Wednesday, October 14, 2026 at 1:30 p.m. in the sanctuary. Bill was a kind and gentle man that always greeted you with a smile.

Farewell to Jane Bowen

Our good friend and a strong women’s advocate in Spokane, Jane Bowen, passed away shortly after celebrating her 100th birthday. The family will hold a celebration of life for Jane next Spring.
