Welcome to our annual Generosity Campaign at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Spokane, where we come together to celebrate the spirit of giving and reaffirm our commitment to creating “A Nourishing Liberal Religious Home.” These four words—Nourishing—Liberal—Religious—Home are spoken from the pulpit every week, welcoming us into this space whether we are seated in the front row, back row, participating from around the globe in our Zoom room with warm and friendly hosts, or having your own quiet, reflective live-streaming experience from wherever your physical body happens to be. This is where we gather bodies, minds, hearts, and spirits. All are welcome here.

Let’s reflect together for the next month of our Generosity Campaign on what it means to create a Nourishing Liberal Religious Home:

Week 1: Nourishing – At the Unitarian Universalist Church of Spokane, we believe in the power of nourishment: feeding not just the body, but the mind and spirit as well. Here, you’ll find a community dedicated to nurturing each other’s growth, supporting one another’s journeys through our joys and our sorrows, and providing sustenance for the soul. Through our worship services, religious education programs, adult enrichment groups, community outreach efforts, social gatherings, and a reliable source of freshly brewed coffee, we strive to cultivate an environment where everyone feels nourished and valued. How do you contribute to nourishing yourself and others in this space?

Week 2: Liberal – In a world often marked by division and dogma, the Unitarian Universalist Church of Spokane stands as a beacon of liberalism—a place where diversity is celebrated—including diversity of thought.  Here, we embrace a liberal interpretation of faith—free to think and express ourselves as individuals, free to question, free to explore, open to changing our minds. We approach what we don’t understand with curiosity and together, we develop the courage needed in the pursuit of truth wherever it may lead. Our commitment to liberal values ensures that everyone who wishes to join us feels accepted, respected, and empowered to be their authentic selves. How do you contribute to preserving liberalism?

Week 3: Religious – While our beliefs may vary, what unites us at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Spokane is our shared commitment to living out our values in the world. We believe in the transformative power of religious community—the power to inspire, to heal, to grow, and to effect positive change. Through our collective efforts, we strive to make a difference in the lives of those around us, living out our faith not just in words, but in action. Where there is suffering, we hold space for each other and the wider world in our community of compassion. How do you find meaning in your contributions to this religious community?

Week 4: Home – More than just a place of worship, the Unitarian Universalist Church of Spokane is a home—a sanctuary where hearts find solace, minds find enlightenment, and spirits find renewal. Here, you’ll find a family of kindred souls, bound together by a common purpose and a shared vision of a better world. Here in this home, we find rest from our past accomplishments, and we restore ourselves for the work that still lies ahead to realize our mission. Whether you’re seeking refuge from the storms of life or companionship on the journey, you’ll always find a warm welcome and a loving embrace at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Spokane. What comes to mind when you think of “home”?
