Our Church
The Unitarian Universalist Church of Spokane was established in 1887 and has been a beacon of progressive thought and social justice ever since. Our mission is to join together to create a nourishing liberal religious home and to champion justice, diversity, and environmental stewardship in the wider world.
We have no dogma or creed that our members are required to believe, and we are each free to seek inspiration from many sources, including the world’s many religions, philosophy, literature, art, and science. Ours is a dynamic, welcoming, and supportive faith community that values the worth and dignity of every person and every individual’s right to freely search for truth and meaning in their lives.
We are a welcoming congregation of more than 300 members including the greater Spokane area, across the country and around the world. Our doors are open to anyone seeking a liberal religious home where they can help create community, find meaning, and work for justice. We gather together, all ages and all backgrounds each Sunday to be inspired, both in our beautiful building or virtually. We embrace diversity of thought and individual virtues and take our common values out into the world for the benefit of all.
Participants in our community can enjoy a variety of unique interest groups that meet regularly, such as the Kerdcera Dojo, Problem Solvers, and Touchstones. (Click here for more information and our other Teams and Groups) For younger families, we have special programming for children and nursery care on Sunday mornings.
We’re proud of our beautiful facility which includes our Sanctuary, Friendship Hall, a chapel, educational rooms and offices. Our grounds include natural and planned landscaping, a walking labyrinth, a children’s play area, a Memorial Garden, raised garden beds, and plenty of parking for you to come join us!
We welcome you: your whole self, with all your truths and your doubts, your worries and your hopes. Join us on this extraordinary adventure of faith. UUCS is an LGBTQ Welcoming Congregation.
We Are Unitarian Universalists
We are brave, curious, and compassionate thinkers and doers. We are diverse in faith, ethnicity, history and spirituality, but aligned in our desire to make a difference for the good. We have a track record of standing on the side of love, justice, and peace.
We have radical roots and a history as self-motivated spiritual people: we think for ourselves and recognize that life experience influences our beliefs more than anything.
We need not think alike to love alike. We are people of many beliefs and backgrounds: people with a religious background, people with none, people who believe in a God, people who don’t, and people who let the mystery be.
We are Unitarian Universalist and Buddhist, Christian, Hindu, Humanist, Jewish, Muslim, Pagan, atheist and agnostic, believers in God, and more.
