Our Partner Church

The UUCS Partner Church Team upholds and promotes the Unitarian Universalist traditions of freedom, reason, tolerance and love by interacting with our partner congregation in Felsőrákos, Romania. Our mission is to foster a relationship through support, communication and education.
Back in 1990 when the Berlin Wall and central European communist governments fell, our UU leaders re-established contact with the Unitarian headquarters in Kolozsvár, where Unitarianism formed during the Reformation. Under the leadership of Judit Gellérd a Transylvanian who lived in America, a movement began to match North American churches with Transylvanian ones with the urgency of saving Transylvanian Unitarians. Our church partnered with the Unitarian church in Felsőrákos, Romania.
Each year Spokane church members’ support high school graduates to continue their studies in universities or technical schools. Our church has supported over 30 village students continuing their education. We’ve extended support for the Felsőrákos church building and to their ministers over the years. Several groups from UUCS have visited and returned with a deeper and broader sense of what it means to be Unitarian.
