Since the publication of my book, The Gadfly Papers, its opponents have begun to call anyone who disagrees with them “Gadflies,” and to dismiss anything they have to say as “Gadflyism.” While I disagree with this irrational and cruel tendency to dehumanize others by lumping all of them and everything they say into a single class, I am choosing to seize this as an opportunity to define exactly what Gadflyism is. Then we can ask what, if anything, is so bad about it?
