Tolerance: Is the Bar too Low, or Just High Enough?

As much intolerance as there appears in the world, tolerance is a modern value most of us would agree we at least ought to adhere to. Yet there was a time when the very notion of tolerance was considered an obvious evil that could only lead to social unrest and violence. People needed to be forced to believe the same thing, practice the same ways, and even look and dress the same, just to assure the peace. In this sermon we’ll explore the evolving history of this liberal principle and consider its value in modern times.
