Speaker: Judge George Fearing
George Fearing serves as a judge on the Washington State Court of Appeals, Division III, which hears appeals from eastern Washington’s county courts. He was appointed to this position in 2013 and has survived three elections since.
Prior to his appointment at the court, he was a civil litigator with his office in the Tri-Cities for thirty-one years. Before becoming a judge, George served as a trustee of the Interfaith Freedom of Conscience Organization, an organization that advocates for separation of church and state. As part of his role with the organization, George wrote a timeline of critical events in American History concerning religious liberty and separation of church and state.
In 2023, the Washington State Access to Justice Board awarded George the Access to Justice Leadership award following numerous dissents he wrote, including one concerning the need to eradicate all restrictive property covenants from auditor records. Another dissent decried the conviction of an African American man for resisting arrest, despite the man suffering a beating from Spokane County Sheriff’s deputies. As a result of the last dissent, the Spokane County Prosecutor sought to remove George from hearing any appeals in Spokane County criminal cases.
George is a member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church, but frequently attends our congregation with his wife, Maurina Ladich.
